The Solar de Divisa de Azuola is the representative institution of the House of Azuola, established to preserve, safeguard and transmit the historical, documentary, genealogical and heraldic heritage of the Azuola lineage.
Its historical origins lie in the Caserío Azula (Azula Baserria), situated in the Goimendi district of the town of Elgeta (Gipuzkoa), the ancient ancestral seat of the Azula family, which has been preserved to the present day. From this historic site, documented since the late fifteenth century, the family developed a trajectory which, over the centuries, linked it first to the service of the Hispanic Monarchy and later to the institutional history of Spanish America.
Inspired by the tradition of the ancient family solares of the Basque Country, the Solar de Divisa de Azuola constitutes the contemporary institutional expression of that historic legacy. Its purpose is to ensure the orderly preservation of the memory of the House of Azuola, to promote research into its history, and to safeguard the transmission of its heritage to future generations.
The organisation of the Solar reflects the enduring commitment of the House of Azuola to the study of historical sources, the protection of its documentary archive, and the preservation of its symbols, bringing together within a single institution its genealogical, heraldic, bibliographical and archival heritage.
The Solar carries out its activities with the utmost respect for the historical documentation preserved in both public and private archives, recognising that the memory of a lineage constitutes a cultural heritage which must be preserved, studied and placed at the service of historical research.
Within the framework of its contemporary activities, the Solar de Divisa de Azuola has been recognised by a number of noble, heraldic and academic corporations. These include the Solar de Divisa de Casasoá, the Princely and Ducal House of Altai and Hyrcania, and the National Academy of Heraldry of Colombia, institutions which recognise the House of Azuola and its Head with the style and dignity of Señor de Azuola, in recognition of the documented historical continuity of the lineage and of the work undertaken in support of its research, preservation and institutional representation.
To preserve, research and promote the historical heritage of the House of Azuola through the conservation of its documents, symbols, traditions and institutional memory.
